Photovoltaic Solar Energy
Photovoltaic (PV) solar energy is when the sun’s energy is absorbed through solar cells, and then converted into regular direct current electricity, which may be used to power anything that runs on electric (home appliances, lighting, small vehicles, etc.). Household solar installations may be built onto the roofs/walls of buildings, or mounted on the ground. You can either feed the photovoltaic solar energy into the grid, or let it charge batteries for your future use.
The demand for solar energy is truly astounding, and the amount of PV production has been roughly doubling every two years. To date, it is the world’s fastest-rising energy technology. The good point is that the cost of PV installations has also been declining steadily. Furthermore, various countries support the rise of these systems by financial incentives and net metering.
Solar energy systems have some important advantages in comparison to other renewable energy sources: they are quite easy to install (no moving parts), easy to maintain, they have a longer lifetime, they suit urban areas (compared to wind turbines, solar systems do not make any noise that would disturb your neighbors), as well as they are not restricted to location the way wind and water systems are. Photovoltaic solar energy systems are specifically well suited for locations where connecting to a grid would be expensive or difficult, as well as for vacation homes, etc.

Note the "rated power output" (in watts) of the panel, which indicates the power it will produce in the sun. On average, a 2-3 kW (2000W-3000W) system is capable of powering a regular home.
Some homeowners choose to connect their solar system to the grid, while others prefer to use the battery-based systems. Both systems are efficient, while grid-connected systems are usually simpler to run. Additionally, with grid-connected systems, you can sell any excess power if you are generating more power than you need (the price would be similar to that of electric in your area).
Photovoltaic solar energy is extremely environmentally friendly, especially when compared to heavy carbon dioxide emissions that come from the regular gas and coal fired power plants.
